Havana, Nov 29. - Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel today congratulated renowned singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez, one of the founders of the Nueva Trova Movement in the Caribbean nation, on his 78th birthday.
“Dear Silvio, congratulations on your birthday. I continue to listen to you when the road is difficult. And when it is not, too. Thank you for being there. May you have a beautiful day with your loved ones and with the best wishes of those of us who love you for your immense work,” the president wrote on his account on X.
From that social network, the president of the National Assembly of People's Power, Esteban Lazo, also sent congratulations to the Cuban singer-songwriter and highlighted that his work is an everlasting part of the national culture.
Author of emblematic compositions such as Ojalá, La Maza, El Unicornio Azul and Te doy una canción, Rodríguez has a catalogue of around twenty studio albums, five live albums and almost a dozen compilation and tribute albums.
His career is backed by dozens of national and international awards, including the Alejo Carpentier Medal, the First Degree Félix Varela Order, the Julio Antonio Mella Order, as well as the Doctor Honoris Causa from the National University of Córdoba (Argentina) and the Honorary Academic distinction of the Academy of Nursing Sciences of Vizcaya (Spain).
