Havana, Dec 20. - The Ministry of Culture of Cuba (Mincult) and the China International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF, for its acronym in Spanish) have signed a framework agreement to strengthen friendship and cooperation in this sector between both nations.
"We see great and mutually advantageous cultural potential in the relations between our two countries," expressed Cuban Minister of Culture Alpidio Alonso prior to the promotional meeting for the 22nd Edition of the ICIF and the signing of the agreement.
The fair, in which Cuba has participated in recent editions, will take place from May 21 to 25, 2026, in the Chinese city of Shenzhen. It is the largest event of its kind in the Asian giant and one of the most important globally.
The minister highlighted the interest of the Caribbean nation in deepening exchanges across different artistic expressions such as film, dance, theater, literature, visual arts, and heritage conservation.
In turn, the President of the Foreign Cultural Exchange Association of Shenzhen City, Zhang Ling, thanked the opportunity to develop bilateral cooperation programs, such as film festivals, academic exchanges, participation in literary fairs, and visual arts presentations.
The activity is part of the agreements made during the recent visit of Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel to that country.

The agreement was signed by Deputy Minister of Culture Fernando León and Deputy Director of the Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism, and Sports Administration of Shenzhen, Ding Zhongyuan.
"We see specific avenues where we can integrate with laudable cultural and economic results for our cultural industries," the deputy minister told Prensa Latina.
The Chinese delegation was led by the accredited Ambassador to Cuba, Hua Xin, along with various officials from Shenzhen, such as the President of the Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Liu Wenbin, and the Chairman of the Board of the company organizing the ICIF, Fang Shiyu.
Representing Cuba, attendees included the Head of the Event Group and the Culture-Tourism Commission, Lis Cuesta; the Acting Director of the Development of Cultural and Creative Industries Directorate of Mincult, René de la Portilla; the Director of the National Ballet of Cuba, Viengsay Valdés, among other officials from both nations.
The new agreement is a general framework for cultural cooperation in different areas of interest for the two nations and opens specific possibilities for exchange, which will be determined later through an executive program. (Text and photo: PL)
