Valdivia, Nov.- The 28th National Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba begins today in the city of Valdivia, where delegates from northern, central and southern Chile will participate to strengthen the historic ties of friendship with the island.
According to the program, the activities will begin with the welcome in the Casa de la Memoria to the representatives of the collectives and then there will be a tour of emblematic places of the city, capital of the Region of Los Ríos.
Marisol Molina, leader of the southern area of the Solidarity Movement, told Prensa Latina that at 17:00 (local time) in the Plaza de la República there will be a collective action against the blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba more than six decades ago.
The opening ceremony will be at the Lord Cochrane Theatre with the assistance of local authorities and the presentation of the quartet Antares, which will meet again for this special occasion after its dissolution, Molina added.
The Peumayen group (dream place, in the Mapudungn language) will also act, dedicated to promoting the Mapuche culture of the north coast of Valdivia.
The debates of the event will take place throughout Saturday, to which more than 100 representatives are registered, will be held, and the conclusions will be announced at the last plenary and the final resolution will be adopted.
Molina recalled that the headquarters to the city of Valdivia was decided at the 27th meeting held in 2022 in the city of La Serena, region of Coquimbo, with the aim of strengthening solidarity with Cuba in southern Chile.
It is a great symbolism to host this important meeting, she said, because Valdivia was the first city in this country to receive a medical brigade after the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, on the occasion of the earthquake that destroyed the city in 1960.
She also mentioned that the meeting will be hosted by the Mexico School, which was a donation from that country after the violent earthquake of magnitude 9.5 degrees, considered the largest in history. (Text and photo: PL)
