The Principal Theater as the epicenter of ballet

Camagüey, Nov 30 - After the recent culmination of the successful National Theater Festival, the Principal Theater of this city is once again the epicenter with the celebration of the 57 years of the Ballet of Camagüey, a symbolic dance company in Cuba.

Although in previous years the festivities lasted a week, this 2024 the celebration will be concentrated in two days of intense activity: Saturday, November 30 and Sunday, December 1st.

However, that does not diminish the importance of the event, which brings together the best of dance art in the city and maximizes the use of the coliseum as a privileged space within the cultural corridor of the historic center, which maintains its vitality thanks to stable electrical service.

This is, without a doubt, the other great moment of optimal use of the Principal Theater, consolidating itself as an axis of Camagüey's cultural life, and it must be so from now on.

The evening performances (Saturday, 8:30 p.m.) and afternoon performances (Sunday, 5:00 p.m.) of the Ballet of Camagüey will be complemented with the participation of the Contemporary Ballet and the Folkloric Ballet.

The anniversary celebration pays tribute to outstanding figures such as Regina Balaguer and María Herminia Martínez (45 years of artistic career), as well as the dancers Yanni García and Yuniet Herrera (20 years of career).

Added to these presentations are the morning performances of the Fernando Alonso Ballet and Dance Promotion Center, on Saturday and Sunday, starting at 10:00 a.m., which offer a unique opportunity to appreciate emerging talent and remember the 57 years of legacy of the Camagüey’s Ballet, founded by teacher Vicentina de la Torre Recio.

Together, these days demonstrate how art continues to be an essential driving force for the cultural life of Camagüey, reaffirming the value of the Principal Theater as a symbol of encounter and celebration for the community. (Yanetsy León González/Adelante Digital) (Photo: Ballet de Camagüey)
