Cuba's electrical system recovery progressing

Havana, Dec 4. - Cuba advances in the gradual process of recovering its electricity system, in the face of the disconnection produced in the early morning of today by the automatic one of its thermoelectric power plants.

At a meeting of the government's working group to resolve the contingency, led by Revolution Commander Ramiro Valdés, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Vicente de la O reported that generation islands were activated in several provinces to energize thermoelectric power plants (CTE).

To this end, units of the company Energas are also incorporated to reach the mobile powerplants of Havana, where several circuits are already energized.

In the center of the country, the CTE of Nuevitas is ready to start the start of its 5th unit and thus be able to reach the CTE of Felton, and in parallel start the engines of Moa.

The CTE of Guiteras, in Matanzas, next to Céspedes (Cienfuegos) and Felton (Holguín) constitute the backbone of SEN in Cuba.

With the activation of generation islands in Santiago de Cuba (in the eastern region of the island) De la O pointed out, the aim is to reach the CTE Renté to begin its start.

He recalled that this is a gradual process to avoid a further disconnect from the SEN.

He said that a significant percentage of the recovery of service is forecast for today, and full rehabilitation will take place tomorrow.

De la O also noted that vitality is prioritized by essential services, such as hospitals and economic centers, as well as basic services to the population (water pumping and gas delivery, among others).

He clarified that unlike the latest disconnection, caused by the scourge of Hurricane Rafael to western Cuba, on this occasion there are no effects on the transmission lines, which facilitates the reactivation of the system. (Text and photo: PL)
