Interparliamentary links between Cuba and Russia stand out


Havana, Dec. 24. - The president of the National Assembly of People's Power (parliament) of Cuba, Esteban Lazo, highlighted the intense interparliamentary relations between his country and Russia, and thanked the Slavic nation for its support.

In a videoconference conversation with the president of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia (upper house), Valentina Matvienko, Lazo conveyed a greeting from the leader of the Revolution, Army General Raúl Castro, and from Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel.

He also congratulated Matvienko on his re-election and referred to the relevance of the meetings held between working groups of both countries, the visits of representatives of various ministries and the exercises of parliamentary control around bilateral agreements.

For her part, Valentina Matvienko reiterated her country's firm position against the US government's blockade of Cuba, as well as the demand that the Caribbean nation be excluded from the list of countries allegedly sponsoring terrorism.

According to national television, Matvienko stressed in the meeting the importance of parliamentary collaboration and the increase in cooperation in different areas and between Russian regions and Cuban provinces. (Text and Photo: PL)
