
Havana, Dec 17.- In the afternoon hours of December 16, Reserve Brigadier General Miguel Rigoberto Sancho Valladares passed away in Sancti Spíritus at the age of 91. He was a combatant of the Rebel Army, the underground struggle, and the Bay of Pigs invasion. He had an exemplary service record over 47 years, holding various responsibilities in the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior.
In 1955 he joined the July 26th Movement; in 1958 he went underground in Santa Clara and was appointed head of the Movement in Camajuaní, Zulueta, Remedios, and Yaguajay. He was a member of the "Abel Santamaría" Column 17 of the Rebel Army, participating in several battles. He took part in the Victory Caravan that entered Havana on January 8, 1959, led by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.
During his service in military institutions, he held several leadership positions with outstanding results and fulfilled internationalist missions in Vietnam and Nicaragua.
For his services to the Homeland, he received multiple state decorations, including the Combatant of the Clandestine Struggle and the War of Liberation Medals; the Commemorative Victory of Girón Medal; the First and Second Class "Ignacio Agramonte" Medals; the Eliseo Reyes Medal; the Exemplary Service in the FAR Medal; and the Second Class Internationalist Combatant Medal.
Funeral honors and military honors will be held on Wednesday the 17th at 9:00 a.m. in the municipality of Cabaiguán, Sancti Spíritus, where he resided at the time of his passing. (Text and Photo: Cubadebate)
