Nuevitas' 10 de Octubre thermoelectric plant generates with stability

Nuevitas, Camagüey, Dec. 26.- Units 5 and 6 of the 10 de Octubre thermoelectric plant in this municipality of Camagüey are generating 75 and 105 megawatts (mw) with stability, respectively.

Jorge Luis Maceira Esteva, general manager of the plant, explained that block 5 was put into service last Friday, after days in which the unavailability of fuel was used to repair the boilers, while in block 6 maintenance was carried out for ten days with the cleaning of the boiler as a critical route, work that allowed the load to be increased with respect to the time of its interruption.

Regarding the assurances for the next dates, Maceira Esteva specified that they have the fuel and water, so they anticipate the plant will continue to contribute efficiently to the National Electroenergy System (SEN, by its acronym in Spanish).

Although it is possible that the generation plan for December will not be fully met, the annual plan must exceed the 91 percent achieved in the previous calendar.

2024 has been a complex year for the SEN, however, in the “10 de Octubre” the line outages were reduced by more than 30 percent; and the group demonstrated its commitment and dedication, in addition, it acquired experience from general disconnections at the country level, and in the last one on the same day they synchronized and received the energy from the island created in Camagüey.

For January 2025, they plan an extended partial maintenance in unit 5 that will extend about 90 days, to benefit the heater, the economizer and the turbine. (Arianna Suárez Torres/Radio Nuevitas) (Photo: Archive)
