UPEC and Union of Computer Scientists strengthen collaboration links

Camagüey, 7 Mar.- Within the day of the press, an exchange between the Union of Computer Scientists (UIC) and the Union of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC) was developed in the territory.

The UIC, next to fulfill its ninth anniversary, stressed the importance of timely space to dialogue on the projects they carry out. An agreement between the two institutions was also signed in order to promote the collaboration between them.

“The Union of Computer Scientists, within the main results it has had, has consolidated alliances with a group of social organizations. This has allowed us, from these agreements, work based on the fact that there is the formation of a digital citizen,” said its president, Reinaldo Alonso Reyes.

“This process travels by a successful social communication, therefore, we from an environment of digital transformation can affirm that this communication will allow us to appropriate the necessary knowledge. We also work for an active participation of our members in the fulfillment of the digital transformation policy”.

Thanks to this, its members are involved in a group of actions and projects that have undoubtedly contributed to the progress of the organization, especially in the field of local development. Such is the case of the local development project (PDL) CO-LAP, as well as the use of an innovation and expression kit for adolescents, donated by UNICEF.

“The level of activities that we have developed have also allowed interaction with the UPEC. We have been able to give visibility and promotion to those actions that we develop from the local level. The innovation ecosystem is also strengthened,” said Alonso Reyes.

An innovation ecosystem includes the participation of all local actors. In the case of the UIC, it is led by the CO-LAP Local Development Project. “The UPEC has to feel incorporated into that innovation ecosystem, because it is not only about developing participatory and citizen innovation. This other encourages citizen communication as a vital element without which there is no citizen participation,” said Alonso Reyes.

“Precisely citizen participation constitutes one of the main problems that the innovation ecosystem has today. The citizen is not aware of one hundred percent of the need to get involved in innovation to solve the problems that the community has today.”

CO-LAP is a dynamic entity of innovation and it is in itself a promoter project of that digital transformation. It has a look at the number ten objective of the government program, related to the impulse of the economy and the reduction of distortions. It is of course, settled in the innovation axis of the digital agenda and seeks to involve the citizen in that contribution from innovation.

Among the results that have been achieved and that are raised as projections for 2025, the consolidation of alliances is maintained with the rest of social organizations. Another projection is related to the strengthening of relations between its members, with the aim of satisfying their needs in the professional order. It seeks to strengthen participation in the innovation ecosystem.

An important aspect is the reduction of the digital gender gap, as well as the digital gap in people with vulnerability and older adults; especially from the point of view of technologies. It is intended to contribute to the continuous growth of knowledge as a right of each citizen.

“We have as a goal to seek that the members of the organization can continue to acquire international certifications from their powers to be able to promote and contribute to that digital transformation in this year. We also intend to strengthen the CO-LAP innovation ecosystem as PDL to pay tribute to that transformation,” said its director Alonso Reyes.

With the commitment of both organizations, which for more than two years have collaborate and contribute from each of their roles to society, an agreement was signed. It establishes to promote digital transformation by taking advantage of its potentialities. One of the main aspects of this initial agreement is the approach to the citizen from effective communication. (Text and photo: Adelente Digital Newspaper)
