Francophonie Month in Cuba dedicates magazine to the island

Havana, Mar 10.- In the context of the Francophonie Month in Cuba, the Alliance Française (AF) is presenting today the magazine Les lettres françaises, an issue that the organizers dedicate to the Caribbean country.

French Letters" is the title in English and the presentation will take place in this capital at 4:00 p.m. local time at the AF headquarters located on Paseo del Prado, where Marc Sagaert, previous director of the entity here (Alexandre Guillochon is the current one), will discuss said publication and the reason why it will be dedicated to Cuba.

Les Lettres françaises was a clandestine literary publication created by Jacques Decour and Jean Paulhan in that European country in 1941, during the German occupation, and disappeared in 1972.

After the end of the Second World War, this press organ, directed by the French writer Louis Aragon between 1953 and 1972, remained under the control of the Communist Party, until in 1972 its funding was withdrawn.

Since the 1990s, the newspaper L'Humanité occasionally publishes extraordinary supplements under the name "Les Lettres françaises."

The Month of Francophonie in Cuba returns to activate in this capital and in the eastern province of Santiago the days of exhibitions, concerts, meetings of literature, cinema, visual arts and music.

Several activities were announced by the director of the AF in Cuba, Guillochon, and by the Counselor for Cooperation and Cultural Action of the French Embassy, Olivier Giron, among which is the promotion of the magazine.

During the Month of Francophonie in Cuba, its organizers announced two major activities, among the most anticipated, it is the performance of the French company Bakhus with a panel on the influence of hip hop on contemporary dance.

The group itself will be in a single performance on March 15 with the play Gaia 2.0, with four men interacting on the stage of the National Theater of Cuba to deliver here a mix of breakdance, with the most contemporary of world dance.

Meanwhile, the other show expected by the Cuban public is the play Favez, in the Adolfo Llauradó hall, in El Vedado, in the capital of Cuba, whose presentation will take place from March 18 to 23 when these days conclude.

The Victor Hugo House, story readings, guided tours or a Canadian art workshop for children make up this entire Francophone arsenal in cooperation with organizations on the island, such as the Ministry of Culture, the Wallonia showcase and the French Embassy here. (Text and photo: PL)
