Camagüey, Mar 12th. - The reservoirs of the province of Camagüey today have a favorable coverage, despite the accumulated drought that presents the territory, which guarantees water both for the service of aqueduct and required in agriculture, in the cold season sowing.

At 64.7 percent (%) of filling are the 12 reservoirs related to the supply to the population, and among them stand out those that integrate the system of this city, which ensure 992 days, reported Gustavo Riesco López, Director-General of the Water Resources Development Company of the Provincial Delegation.

He also exemplified to the Cuban News Agency that stores water for 780 days the dams that supply the vital liquid to the northern city of Nuevitas, among the largest population in its urban area and with several industries, as well as the tourist pole of Santa Lucía, also located in that territory.

The main source of this coastal demarcation is Santa Ana, which has a 57.8% filling rate, although sometimes the hydraulic sector relies on the Cuban-Bulgarian, the latter belonging to the system of the Agramonte's capital.

On the other hand, the Caonao system, a reservoir that serves the municipalities of Florida and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, offers 221 days of coverage, he said.

The remaining reservoirs of the aqueduct service in the extensive region of Camagüey also show a favourable situation.

In the case of agriculture, they are a little more restricted, but the water deposited today covers the demand for the cold seeding campaign in its final phase, mainly rice, some various crops and livestock, said Riesco López.

As a key customer mentioned the Agroindustrial Complex Ruta Invasora, which has representations in areas of Vertientes, Florida, Carlos Manuel de Céspedes and Esmeralda.

Up to the date of March, the province of Camagüey recorded an accumulated rainfall of 9.3%, showing the low occurrence of precipitation throughout the demarcation.

In relation to the accumulated annual historical average, the territory is at two percent, because of thousand 283 millimeters of rain, have fallen only 31.4 millimeters, said the director of the Company of Hydraulic Exploitation Camagüey.

The drought has been more intense in Santa Cruz del Sur, with an average rainfall this month of 1.1%.

Guáimaro and Nuevitas, the municipalities with the highest rainfall so far in 2025, show a better situation in this area.
