The Railway Museum in Camagüey combines historical heritage and modern technology to learn

Camagüey, March 22nd. - The Railway Theme Park Museum in Camagüey stands as an innovative space that combines the rich history of the railroad with modern technology and an interactive approach.

This facility not only preserves and showcases the region's railway heritage, but also invites visitors to immerse themselves in unique experiences through exhibits and hands-on activities.

Thanks to its contemporary design and the incorporation of technological tools, the museum becomes an educational and recreational meeting point, where both adults and children can explore and learn about the fascinating world of this mode of transportation in a dynamic and entertaining way.

One block long and boasting a distinctive Art Deco style, the so-called Old Terminal has significant heritage value. The first railway connecting the old town of Santa María del Puerto del Príncipe with the port of Nuevitas was opened on its grounds in 1851, thanks to the initiative of Gaspar Betancourt Cisneros. This project was one of the first railways built in Cuba during that period.

After the asphalt was removed, a section of the original cobblestone was restored in the area formerly occupied by this road. In addition, an extensive restoration program was carried out, revitalizing part of the electric tram line. A modern lighting system was incorporated, and planters with borders designed to function as seating were installed, giving the site a new look and functionality.

The architectural heritage of this artery is further enriched by Van Horne Park, where two original locomotives from the old Senado and Lugareño sugar mills—now known as the Noel Fernández and Sierra de Cubitas sugar mills, respectively—are on display, symbols of the historical link between the railroad and the development of the sugar industry in the province of Camagüey.

The Plaza Hotel bar and La Estación cafeteria, managed by the Provincial Tourism Company of Santa María City, also contribute to this atmosphere. Here, visitors can admire photographic illustrations of railway engines that were common in the city during the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as enjoy a varied selection of light meals, refreshing drinks, and cocktails.

In an effort to preserve the urban environment and improve the community's quality of life, the Camagüey Railway Theme Park Museum presents itself as a space that combines the past and the present, as well as serving as a landmark in the history of the railroad.
