Trump issues executive orders: 104 in less than 100 days

Washington, March 27th. - Although some are currently being challenged in court, U.S. President Donald Trump has now signed 104 executive orders in less than 100 days of his second term.

The figure was reached this week. Records show that Trump has exercised his presidential pen at a pace unprecedented in modern U.S. history, according to local media.

The sheer volume of judicial reversals, particularly at this early stage of the president's term, is exceptional, said William Howell, a professor of political science and public policy at Johns Hopkins University, as quoted by CBS News.

For example, orders seeking to eliminate birthright citizenship and one that froze foreign aid by dismantling the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) were suspended by judges in court due to potential executive overreach, the news network added.

Of the total executive orders signed by the Republican president, 17 relate to the current administration's main focus: drastic cuts to reduce the federal government through the newly created Department of Government Efficiency, headed by Elon Musk.

Trade policy is another focus of the Oval Office occupant's attention, with 16 orders aimed primarily at adjusting import tariffs.

But despite Trump's claims that these orders will protect domestic producers, economists estimate they could drive up consumer prices.

Trump has also repeatedly used executive orders to deregulate the use of fossil fuels and implement his aggressive agenda against undocumented immigrants.

In addition, five of the orders were directed at individuals involved in investigations related to him or former federal officials who criticized him, either by revoking their security clearances or canceling their government contracts, the publication added.

At the same time, three of Trump's orders revoked dozens of directives from the Joe Biden era (2021-2025), including those related to Covid-19 and climate change.

The 32nd President of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt (1933–1945), held the record. He signed 99 executive orders in his first 100 days.

These presidential directives do not require congressional approval, but they have the force of law if the issue behind them falls within the president's constitutional authority. In recent history, they have routinely been used to undo the policies of their predecessors. (Text and photo: PL)
