Camagüey, March 28th. - From the city of Camagüey, 11 bus departures are guaranteed, with varying frequencies, to different destinations in Cuba. To fulfill this mission, the work of the establishments that make up the National Bus Base Business Unit, one of the most prominent in the country, comprised of the Interprovincial Terminal and the Base, is crucial.
These buses are showing sustained progress, despite the marked lack of resources for vehicle maintenance. This is encouraging the innovative movement that has traditionally been a strong pillar for maintaining the vitality of Yutong buses, which have been in operation for several years, while also avoiding service suspensions with the scheduled frequencies.
The National Bus Station, located within the Jayamá People's Council of the city of Camagüey, achieves positive economic indicators that impact workers' salaries through the successful implementation of Resolution 87 and other payment mechanisms.
While the technical availability coefficient (TAC) is lower than in previous years, currently, out of a total of 29 vehicles, 22 are still on the road, giving the province an average of between 58 and 60 percent availability. These vehicles also provide services to other provinces such as Guantánamo, Santiago de Cuba, Granma, Las Tunas, and Ciego de Ávila, depending on the demands of those territories.
Some 25 mechanics, electricians, dishwashing technicians, tire repairers, body repairers, and turners overcome everyday limitations with the creativity that allows them to find quick solutions; in this field, they have quite a few achievements to show, such as the recovery of engine liners for buses.
Reinier Gómez Muñoz, director of the National Buses Unit (UEB), recognizes the intensity of the effort undertaken over the past several months, resulting in positive results. He emphasizes that the drivers have extensive experience, a sense of belonging, and a love for what they do. (Text and photo: TV Camagüey)
