Florida advocates for more favorable indicators for the Maternal and Child Care Program

Florida, Camagüey, April 10th. - The municipality of Florida closed the first quarter of this year with an infant mortality rate of 16.6 per thousand live births, an indicator that should continue its downward trend as individual, family, community, and institutional responsibilities regarding pregnancy and maternity care are met.

To date, a total of 60 new babies have been born in Florida, while the death of a baby before reaching its first 12 months of life was mourned here.

The current work strategy of the Maternal and Child Care Program (PAMI) includes strengthening measures to detect early pregnancy, monitor pregnant women at risk before conception, ensure immediate admission to hospital units in cases of threat to the health of the mother and fetus, and promote awareness about the dangers and consequences of teenage pregnancy.

In the face of the current shortage of material resources and other means that should fully support the health care system and other socioeconomic actors in their support of the aforementioned program, the experience of public health professionals, the support of family medicine and PAMI, and the government's determination to ensure no one is left behind, no matter how difficult times may be, are particularly noteworthy.
