Havana, April 10 – Cuba will mobilize around five million people on May 1st during the central activities for International Workers' Day, affirmed the Secretary General of the Cuban Workers' Union (CTC, for its acronym in Spanish), Ulises Guilarte.
The top leader of the CTC presented at a press conference the plan of activities that includes union mobilizations throughout the country, and will resume the traditional march in the capital in front of José Martí Revolution Square.
In that place full of symbolism, the historical leader Fidel Castro proclaimed 25 years ago – the 1st. May 2000 - the concept of Revolution that today expresses the conviction of consolidating socialism with the broadest participation of workers, Guilarte asserted.
The commemorations for the workers' day take into account, he said, the strong local and global economic reality, but with austerity in the use of resources, the country's workforce will consciously and voluntarily mobilize in each place, he noted.
The communication campaign in traditional and virtual spaces will be governed under the motto “For Cuba Together We Create”, which responds, he noted, to the priorities of the country's governmental and political plan to correct distortions and re-boost the economy.
He also highlighted the dissemination of life stories of workers and union leaders, promotional capsules, television and radio spots, as well as interviews with representatives of various unions that will testify the mobilizing force of the Cuban working class.
The member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party also mentioned the participation of workers in massive volunteer work days on April 12 and 19, in addition to those carried out with other sectors on March 9 and April 4.
He assured that there are union commitments to increase industrial production, depending on the availability of raw materials, support the distribution of the standardized family basket, the materialization of investments in the hydraulic branch, the diversification of agricultural items, among others.
The CTC will award state decorations and honorary titles of Heroes and Heroines of Labor of the Republic of Cuba to collectives and members, and will also recognize leaders with significant careers within the union movement, he explained.
The organization will show the revitalization of its movement of amateur artists and sports that systematically calls for the practice of activities in these areas, stated the general secretary.
During the celebration, it will also host some 700 international delegates from more than 30 countries representing a hundred union organizations from the five continents, said the organizers of the activities for International Workers' Day. (Text and photo: PL)
