Santa Cruz del Sur, Camagüey, Apr 11th. - After staying more than two years off service, the shrimp boat "7" returned back to the sea so that, once the calibration of the art and the winche has been tested, as well as the propellant engine, it can be reinstated to the area of Playa Florida, in Camagüey, where there are greater performances in the capture of the crustacean.
On board there is a crew who long eager to resume fishing work, not only by trade, but also by rooting for a vocation that was born at home.
Following the example of his father, Carlos Andrés Cañamero Tía, fisherman from the municipality of Santa Cruz del Sur, has dedicated more than 30 years of his life to the capture of lobster, scale and now of the shrimp.
We started the work at six o'clock in the afternoon until seven o'clock in the morning, exposed many times to the danger of the night and away for 14 days from the family, Cañamero Tío explained in conversation with the Cuban News Agency.
However, here we also find a house and among all we have learned to support ourselves, to love each other and treat ourselves as brothers," he added.
At sea he took refuge more than 35 years ago, Rafael Leyva Mendoza or the "Indian," as his friends popularly call him.
I am one of those who thinks, he said, that each person learns or works on what he likes and this is where the Revolution needs us to contribute exports and supply to strategic sectors such as tourism.
At the head of the team there is always Edey David Cardenas Morfa, the patron of the boat, and the man in whom everyone trusts to make a safe, effective journey and return with the satisfaction of the duty accomplished.
"I thank my parent for everything I know about fishing," he said, "because with him I understood that I was born for this.
Protecting your men, he pointed out, is his greatest responsibility, fundamentally when they are surprised by bad weather and it is necessary to anchor himself in the nearest key, as the commitment aims to return them to the ground with their loved ones.
To guarantee the volumes of shrimp capture in the campaign from March to June, the Base Business Unit (UEB) Fisheries Operations of the Industrial Fisheries Company of Santa Cruz del Sur (Episur), has eight fishing boats, two shipped and one ferrotaller, said Nazario Luis Banté, director of that UEB.
After two years of inactivity, he explained that the UEB has for this 2025 a plan of 1,110 tons that includes species such as scale, lobster, cobo, sea cucumber, oyster and clam, in addition to the shrimp.
Although the first few months did not report favorable figures, he stressed that in March they oversupply the 57 tons planned and in complex conditions such as those facing the country, he highlighted the willingness of the Colombian fishermen to grow at sea to boost the economic development that the country needs.
