Journalism-tourism seminar points to the nature of Cuba

Havana, April 11. - The 18th edition of the International Seminar on Journalism and Tourism scheduled for next June will focus on topics related to nature travel, adventures and ruralities.

Some elements announced by the organizing committee included agreements with the Ecotur S.A. Travel Agency for attendees to visit productive farms during the days of the meeting.

The José Martí International Institute of Journalism (IIPJM, for its acronym in Spanish) has convened the XVIII International Journalism and Tourism Seminar, which will meet from June 16 to 20, 2025, in Havana, at the headquarters of that educational instance.

The traditional event in that month is organized by the specialized tourism press section of the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC, for its acronym in Spanish) in coordination with the IIPJM, and Ecotur has now joined as a sponsor.

The meeting, aimed at journalists, communicators, and other professionals, will be an ideal space to once again analyze global trends in tourism and communication, emphasizing topics of primary interest such as the rise of ecotourism and the impact of artificial intelligence, they said.

In addition, it will promote the exchange of opportunities, challenges and good practices in media coverage.

New technologies, and now artificial intelligence, are imposing themselves, impacting the management of hotels, travel agencies and specialized journalistic communication.

The seminar will bring together experts in tourism, journalism, and technological innovation to analyze how the tourism industry is transforming. On the other hand, representatives of the Ministry of Tourism (Mintur, for its acronym in Spanish) and different hotel chains will participate in the conferences and debates of the seminar.

As in previous years, the meeting will gain rigor through open exchange and debate among colleagues from multiple Latin American and Caribbean countries, regular participants in each edition.

Conferences, panels and exhibitions in the morning session, visits to reference hotels and centers of cultural and gastronomic interest in Havana, will qualify the meeting, which will include an excursion to Varadero beach, Cuba's main resort.

For his part, Ecotur's commercial director, Francisco Longino, stated on his Facebook account that the IIPJM (International Institute of Tourism) has requested his group to be the receptive one on June 17, 2025, Agrotourism Day.

On that day, the attending journalists will visit the scientific, social and tourist educational productive farm El Guayabal, of the Agrarian University of Havana (UNAH, for its acronym in Spanish).

For that day, they plan to showcase the Agrarian Knowledge Route and it will be explained how it is designed and implemented (Mayabeque Agro-Tourism Ecosystem).

In addition, they will visit the Vista Hermosa farm in the municipality of Guanabacoa and the Guanabito farm of the Palmares company in the municipality of Habana del Este, also in Havana.

All these agricultural products will be toured by delegates of the X Ibero-American Meeting, which will take place in Cuba from September 29 to October 5 of this year. This international event is organized by Iberoatur and the Ministry of Tourism, he announced.

The journalism and tourism seminar attracts the attention of professionals in the sector, especially from Latin America and the Caribbean, with frequent attendance by communicators from Colombia, Mexico, Panama, and Brazil, among others. (PL) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
