Havana, April 12.- Forces from the capital of Cuba put out a fire in the Guido Pérez Brewery, in the Cotorro municipality, without regretting any deaths or injuries, said a notification in the main broadcast of the National Television News.
According to the report, the actions taken to extinguish the fire and the preventive protocol, under which 237 residents, students from three schools, and workers from the brewery itself were evacuated, prevented the incident from damaging human lives.
The director of the factory, Lorenzo Cabrera, explained to local media that the ignition occurred in a site that has been disused for more than 20 years.
There, Cabrera explained, restoration actions are being carried out that include removing the cork, and the dismantling of the tanks - installed since 1948 -, with a view to reusing that space in future projects.
The flames were detected around 05:00, local time, this Friday, when specialized brigades from the firefighters and the Civil Defense of Cotorro, a municipality in the extreme south of Havana, and surrounding towns were immediately mobilized.
The material damage caused by the fire in the industrial facility, where government and party authorities from Havana and Cuba attended, has not yet been assessed. (Text and photo: PL)
