Cuba's largest mass organization acknowledged

Havana, April 16th.—The Secretary of Organization of the Cuban Communist Party, Roberto Morales, recognized the role played by the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) in the face of the complex economic situation facing the island.

During the fourth plenary session of the National Directorate of the country's largest mass organization, Morales Ojeda highlighted the role of the CDRs in defending the revolutionary process, in a context "where the enemy expects the people to surrender."

"We can't talk about unity if we don't talk about the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, because we're all in the neighborhood," the political leader asserted.

He noted that when a CDR works well, it does good political-ideological work, which contributes to "forging that unity, and the best way to consolidate unity is for everyone to participate together."

The Secretary of Organization stated at the meeting that mass organization is crucial in all plans implemented at the national level, according to the Cuban Communist Party's website.

For his part, the Hero of the Republic and national coordinator of the CDRs, Gerardo Hernández, urged the organization to develop strategies to resolve pending issues and demonstrate progress at upcoming meetings.

Hernández highlighted the effectiveness of community debates held in different parts of the country as a means of reaching out to the population.

Since their founding, the CDRs have been active in combating crime, illegality, corruption, drugs, and social indiscipline.

In addition to mobilizing society in the defense and achievements of socialism, this mass organization had, among other objectives, participation in the National Literacy Campaign and vaccinations against polio and various other diseases. (Text and Photo: PL)
