Gastón, a true village doctor (+ Photos)

Céspedes, Camagüey, April 15th. - It is common in the municipality of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes to find Dr. Gastón Idel Martinez Pérez, delegate of District No. 3 and deputy to the Cuban parliament for two consecutive terms, in different work groups, cultural activities or volunteer work, always surrounded by people.

Just walking alongside, him through the central streets of the territory can confirm this: many people want to talk to the delegate: some to inquire about street repairs, rising prices in state-run establishments, the progress of the harvest, teenage pregnancy, even to complain about certain agricultural product sales, to name a few examples.

Everyone has something to say, and Gastón listens with the patience of someone who knows he's a public servant. This is evidenced by his constant concern for young people disconnected from school and work, vulnerable elderly people, and women with various problems who feel certain that their situation will be addressed and resolved.

Responsibility to society speaks to her worth and unwavering commitment. Processing these issues with administrators is part of the great responsibility she assumes in her efforts to perfect the work of People's Power.

His efforts are multiplied by the usefulness of virtue. The more direct connection with the population forces him to understand all their needs and problems, thereby increasing his sensitivity to constantly search for ways to improve the quality of life by addressing these problems.

The strength required to resist exhaustion and to dig deeper into the search for solutions, in some cases gaining clarity to provide the answers the population deserves, means that admiration, respect, and affection for this representative of the people of Cespedes grows daily.

It has no resources in its hands, but through efficient management, it contributes to the administration of these resources so that they reach the places most needed and thus solve the neighborhood's problems. This task it undertakes with a sense of belonging, because helping the just over 22,000 inhabitants it represents is a great satisfaction that compensates for any situation, no matter how difficult.

For Gastón Idel Martínez Pérez, nothing is impossible when it comes to helping, an action that makes him a true village doctor. (Text and photos: Zenia Donet García/Radio Cadena Agramonte)
