Havana, April 17.- When during this week the majority of the provinces conclude the seminar with a view to the prior registration of the 2025 Population and Housing Census, the country will have taken a new and important step to ensure this training in all Cuban municipalities.
This was stated, in exclusive statements to Granma, by Henry González Galbán, director of the Center for Population and Development Studies at the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI, for its acronym in Spanish), who affirms that, after the successful launch of this seminar in Sancti Spíritus and Cienfuegos, the rest of the territories have been preparing the personnel who will be in charge of prior registration.
This, Henry adds, has been possible because the corresponding computer application is ready. So far, there has only been one minor inconvenience: in most municipalities, we have desktop computers that do not allow the information collected by the enumerators to be transmitted via Wi-Fi, an issue that must be resolved shortly.
Among the upcoming actions, the adequate training of approximately 3,800 social workers stands out, a force that will take an active part in the process for the first time.
The use of modern computer and communication tools will lead to better use of time, human and material resources, as well as agility in operations during prior registration and in carrying out the census, which will include 18 questions related to housing and 23 to people.
The georeferential system will make it possible to condense not only housing information, but also statistical and economic information of interest to the country.
In dialogue with the press, Antonio Pérez Hernández, head of the provincial Census department in Ciego de Ávila, and Yanet Brunet Luis, head of the IT commission, praised the interest shown during the theoretical and practical activities by the municipal office directors, IT specialists and those directly responsible for the Census, in charge of extending the content and preparation to their respective territories.
