Camagüey, April 18 – As part of the Hanami Festival in the province of Camagüey, the sociocultural project MangaQba inaugurated the exhibition of finalist posters from the Rashomon design contest.

For the first time in its history, the project launched the contest to redesign the cover of a film, for which designers from several provinces of the country sent their works and ten were selected as finalists.

We chose Akira Kurosawa's film Rashomon (1950) because this year marks the 75th anniversary of its release, Carlos Oliva, president of the MangaQba project, which aims to spread Japanese culture in the province, explained to Prensa Latina.

The contest followed the thematic line of this XIII edition of the Hanami Festival, Japanese cinema, and is part of a varied program of activities that will continue until April 20.

The winning work of the contest will be announced on the 19th before screening the honored film.

Rashomon (1950) is a film by renowned Japanese director Akira Kurosawa set in XII-century Japan.

It narrates the discussion between a woodcutter, a Buddhist priest and a pilgrim about the trial of a bandit who killed a feudal lord and raped his wife; from a multi-vision perspective, the film classic delves into the details of the crime. (Text and photos: PL)
