Moscow, April 18. - The Russian Foreign Ministry presented this Thursday to the Japanese Embassy in Moscow a strong protest in relation to Tokyo's plans to carry out military exercises in close proximity to the Russian borders.

From the Foreign Ministry it was detailed that the military exercises would be held this June on the Japanese island of Hokkaido and would include training shots with the use of SSM-1 anti-ship systems equipped with Type-88 missiles with a range of up to 200 km.

The HIMARS multiple launch system and the Type 88 surface-to-ship missile are displayed at a military camp as part of Resolute Dragon 21, a joint U.S.-Japan military exercise, on December 7, 2021 in Japan.

"The Russian side perceives this type of provocative military activity near Russia's Far Eastern borders as a potential threat to national security and considers it categorically unacceptable," the ministry denounced.

"These actions by Tokyo lead to an increase in the level of tension in Northeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region in general," it is maintained.

In conclusion, the organization warned that Russia reserves the right to take all necessary countermeasures to mitigate threats to its security on its Far Eastern borders. (Text and photos: RT)
