Creativity and Technological Innovation Awards 2024 Presented


Havana, April 18. - The Cuban Industrial Property Office (OCPI, for its acronym in Spanish) presented today, in this capital, the Awards for Creativity and Technological Innovation, corresponding to the year 2024.

María de los Ángeles Sánchez Torres, president of that institution, explained that the recognitions were granted in the categories of Inventions, Industrial Drawings and Models; Brands and other distinctive signs; and Children's and Youth Creativity, but the latter was deserted as it did not receive proposals.

In the Inventions section, the award went to the Method for obtaining recombinant and hyposialylated human erythropoietin for the treatment of alterations of the nervous system, from the Center for Molecular Immunology (CIM, for its acronym in Spanish).

The initiative guarantees, without additional chemical and genetic modifications, a new fermentation and purification process to obtain a composition different from Neuroepo in terms of its comprehension of its forms and greater biological activity, which was called Neuroepoplus, for showing more favorable results in clinical trials.

Teresita Rodríguez, leader and scientific manager of the Neuroepo project, emphasized the importance of obtaining recognition for this much-needed method, which has a high percentage of improvement and control in diseases affecting the nervous system and is constantly evolving through clinical trials carried out throughout the country.

The OCPI granted, in the category of Brand and other distinctive signs, recognition to GYSCOM, of the Information Technology and Advanced Telematic Services Company (Citmatel, for its acronym in Spanish), whose brand enhances the increase of commercial offers for the national public.

The presentation of these awards was attended by Rolando Hernández Viguad, head of the Services Section of the offices of the International Cooperation Division of the Patent Cooperation Treaty of the World Industrial Property Organization, and María Luisa Zamora Rodríguez, director of Human Resources of Scientific-Technological Potential of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA, for its acronym in Spanish).

Hendrick José Perdomo Colmenares, Vice Minister of Monitoring and Control of National Trade and Distribution of the Ministry of National Trade in Venezuela, was also part of the awards ceremony.

The Awards for Creativity and Technological Innovation have been awarded since 1997 to highlight successful strategies of institutions and creators, in terms of industrial property, with positive results in the commercialization of products and services, he recalled. (Text and photo: ACN)
