Zelensky: Ukraine will negotiate only after a complete ceasefire by Russia

Moscow, April 23 – Ukraine is only willing to enter negotiations and take the next steps to resolve the conflict when Russia ceases fire, Vladimir Zelensky declared during a press conference.

"If we're talking about an unconditional ceasefire, we officially agree. If it's about other steps, additional steps, if it's about Ukraine's sovereignty, how can we agree?" he said.

"If the Russians tomorrow are not only ready for a ceasefire, but stop the fire, we are ready to sit down at the negotiating table and move on to new steps to end the war. If something is done in deeds, and not just words," he added.

Zelensky also expressed hope that Donald Trump will support Ukraine and pressure Russia, since, according to him, the US and Russia are "historical enemies."

From Russia they have repeatedly indicated that the country is ready for dialogue, but at the same time they specified that a possible temporary ceasefire could be used as an attempt to give the Kyiv regime's troops a chance to rearm.

"As for the resolution of the situation itself, I want to emphasize once again that its goal should not be a short truce, not some kind of respite for the regrouping of forces and rearmament with a view to the subsequent continuation of the conflict, but a long-term peace based on respect for the legitimate interests of all people," Russian President Vladimir Putin explained in January. The president added that "the most important thing is to address the root causes of the crisis."

In addition, the Russian leader often calls for attention to kyiv's violations of agreed truces.  For example, although a decrease in attacks was detected during the Easter truce, 4,900 ceasefire violations by the Ukrainian side were recorded during this period. (Text and Photo: RT)
