Havana, Apr 23rd. - Research from the Center for Pollution and Chemistry of the Atmosphere shows that the cities with the lowest quality in the air in Cuba are Mariel, Nuevitas, Moa, Havana, Santiago de Cuba, Cienfuegos and Matanzas.
These territories have high concentrations of suspended particles, nitrogen oxides and sulphur compounds, as a result of industrial activity, transport and energy generation, while the authorities have recognized this data as an alert to strengthen environmental measures.
In response to this diagnosis, local and national institutions have begun to implement mitigation strategies. These include the modernisation of controls at industrial plants, the transition to cleaner energy sources and constant monitoring of air quality. Citizen awareness campaigns are also promoted to reduce domestic emissions and excessive use of vehicles.
Specialists from the Center for Pollution and Chemistry of the Atmosphere insist that efforts must be intensified. Collaboration between government agencies, businesses and citizens is essential to reverse the levels of pollution that affect public health and ecosystems.
The impact of atmospheric pollution goes beyond the local, as it contributes to global warming and climate disruption.
The inclusion of these cities in the high pollution list is an urgent call for action. Only comprehensive policies, sustainable investments and environmental education will a significant improvement in air quality be achieved. The goal is to ensure a healthier environment for today and future generations. (Radio Clock) (Photo: Internet taken)
