St. Petersburg, Russia, May 5th. - The President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, today began his official visit to Russia, with the placement of a floral offering before the monument to Motherland in the cemetery of Pikarievski, in St. Petersburg.
According to Prensa Latina, the head of state of the Caribbean country began his official activities paying tribute to the defenders of the city of Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) in the monument complex, accompanied by the president of the city's Foreign Affairs Committee, Evgeny Grigoriev.
After the Díaz-Canel ceremony and the governor of the city, Alexander Beglov, held official talks where they analyzed the prospects of bilateral cooperation in economics, culture, education and other areas.
On the day the president of the Caribbean nation will also visit scientific, biotechnological and artificial intelligence development centers of the so-called capital of northern Russia.
In the second stage of his official visit to the Slavic Nation, the Cuban leader will move to Moscow where he will participate in the commemorative events and Parade in Red Square for the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory against Nazi Germany.
It will also take part in the celebrations of the events organized on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between Russia and Cuba. (Text and photos: PL)
