Havana, June 2 – Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez today expressed his country's condolences for the consequences of the recent floods in Nigeria.
On the social network X, the Cuban foreign minister stated: We express our condolences to the Government and people of Nigeria for the hundreds of victims and missing persons and the serious economic damage caused by the severe flooding in the west of that African country.
The heavy rains in that territory last Wednesday and Thursday left at least 200 people and some 3,000 displaced, as well as serious economic damage.
According to authorities in Mokwa (more than 350 kilometers from Abuja, Nigeria's capital), rescue operations have been suspended in that town as it is estimated there are no survivors.
Efforts are now aimed at exhuming bodies buried under the rubble to prevent the spread of disease. (Text and photo: PL)
