Camagüey, June 4th. - Camagüey commemorated World Environment Day, with the highest political and government leadership and representatives of the scientific community expressing their joint commitment to protecting the planet, highlighting the importance of caring for nature for present and future generations.
The Camagüey Airport Base Business Unit hosted the celebration, and in recognition of its efforts to protect the environment, this institution received the 2024 Territorial Environmental Recognition.
Likewise, the National Environmental Award, the highest distinction of the territorial delegation of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA), was presented to the Fuel Transportation Base Business Unit, to Professor Eleodoro Carbajal García, and to journalist Meozzotis Fabelo Pinares, for their dedication to solving and mitigating environmental problems.

Various organizations and institutions that have achieved outstanding results in reducing and eliminating negative impacts, promoting sustainable management and the efficient use of natural resources, were also honored.
In particular, Dr. Yosvani Julio Miranda, CITMA delegate, presented recognition to the municipality of Vertientes for its significant results in environmental protection and conservation.
Throughout the day, educational activities were held in communities across the province, including children's contests, talks, cleanup days, hygiene campaigns, and workshops for the business sector. These activities reinforce the importance of the June 5th celebration as a platform that engages all sectors of society and promotes concrete actions for the planet.

Irma Martín Sánchez, deputy delegate of CITMA, congratulated the honorees in her closing remarks and highlighted the new challenges the province faces in environmental protection.
