Europe is the main obstacle to peace in Ukraine, says Russia

Moscow, Jun 7th. - Some European countries became the main obstacle to peace in Ukraine, as they are constantly trying to hinder the negotiation process, Russian Vice-Chancellor Sergei Riabkov said today.

The senior diplomat noted that the leaders of the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization tirelessly incite Kiev to continue hostilities, supply it with weapons, technology and promises of more.

They also help Kiev in organizing and carrying out various actions of sabotage and provocation, and spreading a torrent of disinformation aimed at hindering the negotiation process, Riabkov added.

Brussels strategists continue to try to convince US President Donald Trump to return to the policy pursued by his predecessor, Joe Biden, the vice-chancellor continued, adding that such a policy was unconditional support for Ukraine and further escalation.

Riabkov also recalled that it is precisely from this perspective that the Russian side perceives the statements and actions of the German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, including his words on the lifting of restrictions for the Ukrainian Armed Forces to launch missile attacks against Russia.

That's one of the actions deliberately directed against the wishes of those seeking a political solution, he added.

On June 5, Merz met with Trump in Washington, in what was the first personal meeting between the two politicians. The German chancellor, in particular, urged the United States to take political responsibility and contribute to the resolution of the conflict, and also advocated increasing pressure on Russia through new restrictions.

On May 26, Merz reported that Germany had lifted all restrictions on the scope of the weapons Berlin supplies to Kiev. According to the politician, the United States, the United Kingdom and France made a similar decision.

Merz did not rule out the supply of Taurus long-range missiles, which Ukraine has long requested. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitri Peskov told reporters that Merz's statements about long-range weapons only lead to the continuation of the conflict in Ukraine. (Text and photo: PL)
