Transport Minister updates on recovery after derailment of the Holguín-Havana Train in Camagüey

Camagüey, Jun 10th. - Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, Minister of Transport of Cuba, updated through his official profile on Facebook the progress in the recovery after the derailment of the Holguín-Habana train on May 27. The headline reported that the passage through the Central Line has already been completely restored and the maintenance of the railway infrastructure continues.

According to the minister, since May 30, the relief brigades of Camagüey and Santiago de Cuba have been working in coordination with specialists in railroads. These actions allowed the assembly of the van and a passenger car on its bearing systems, being transferred to the workshops of Camagüey for evaluation and subsequent repair.

Rodríguez Dávila explained that between May 29 and June 2, the work focused on road adjustments and the complex process of putting them in place.

Due to the critical position of some teams, it was necessary to use large-capacity cranes, requiring the special transfer of a service train from Santiago de Cuba. During this period, the security of the area was carried out by the National Revolutionary Railway Police, patrols of the Ministry of the Interior and staff of the National Trains Company.

Between 5 and 6 June, the coordinated work between the relief cranes and the track brigades made it possible to successfully complete the operation, achieving the track and transfer of the remaining teams to the workshops in Camagüey. The minister stressed that this was over the most critical phase of physical recovery following the incident.

In his final statements, Rodríguez Dávila said that the safe movement of both cargo and passenger trains has already been restored through the affected section, ensuring full operation of the national rail service. (Text and Photo: Cubadebate)
