Geneva, June 17.- Cuba today condemned the Israeli attacks against Iran in the United Nations Disarmament Conference and denounced the United States' support for a conduct of action that it described as repudiable and irresponsible.
Speaking at the forum's plenary session, the island's ambassador to the UN in Geneva, Rodolfo Benítez, affirmed that the ongoing aggression against Iran constitutes a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter and international law, including the principles of sovereignty and the non-threat or use of force.

This policy, which Israel carries out with impunity, is only possible thanks to the military, financial, logistical, and political support guaranteed by the US government, he emphasized.
This policy, which Israel carries out with impunity, is only possible thanks to the military, financial, logistical, and political support guaranteed by the US government, he stressed.
According to Benítez, the attacks of recent days, to which Iran has responded, seriously endanger regional and international stability and security, with unpredictable effects.
“The United States and Israel will have to answer for the consequences of an unjustified war against Iran,” said the diplomat, who reiterated Cuba's solidarity with the people and government of the Islamic Republic.
The ambassador also called on the international community, and in particular the United Nations Security Council and General Assembly, to exercise their primary responsibility to maintain peace and security.
In his speech, the representative of the Caribbean nation advocated prioritizing nuclear disarmament, which he considered a matter of survival.
“Humanity is threatened by the existence of more than 12,300 nuclear weapons. Of these, 3,900 are active and deployed in operational forces, ready for immediate use; this number has been growing in recent years,” he stated. Benítez also criticized the enormous expenditures, estimated at more than $100 billion, allocated annually to the maintenance and modernization of nuclear arsenals.
This money could have financed the United Nations budget 28 times, at a time when the Organization is facing severe budget cuts, he said. (Text and photo: PL)
