Camagüey, July 2 - As the qualifying stage of the U-23 National Baseball Tournament draws to a close, three teams keep in Group C their options to the two places available for the next competitive segment of the championship.
The candidates to continue their journey in the tournament are Sancti Spíritus, Las Tunas, and the Camagüey team, which enters this period hampered by its low results in the two previous subseries held against Sancti Spíritus and Ciego de Ávila, against whom it lost five of its six games.
The day before, the Camagüey team dispatched the Las Tunas Lumberjacks 3-1, whom they have become their tormentors, by winning the first four matches played in this stage.
That victory was greatly influenced by the performances of pitcher Riquelmi Odelín, with three hits and one loss in this period, and of infielder Yeinier Montero, who hit with the bases loaded and drove in two of his team's three runs in the game.
It is vital for Camagüey to win, otherwise its permanence in the competition could be seriously jeopardized.
The Sancti Spiritus team has a less rigorous finish, as they face the Ciego de Ávila team, the last place of this group. (Text and photo: Gilberto Rodríguez Rivero/Radio Cadena Agramonte Contributor)
