Havana, July 3 – Havana's railway workers today fulfilled their goal of restoring Expocuba Train service this summer, as reported on social networks by Transport Minister Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila.
The first trip departed at 7:50 a.m., although the Minister stated that there weren't many passengers, but that the experience was significant and he hopes that little by little more people will be able to use the service.
He referred to coordination with recreational centers, such as the National Botanical Garden, to transport passengers to enjoy the services of that facility.
The train operates with three carriages to carry 204 passengers per trip and will have two daily departures, departing from the Central Station freight yard for the outbound journey and from Expocuba for the return journey.
The stops will be: Central Station freight yard, Luyanó, Dolores, Víbora, Naranjito, Miraflores, Los Pinos, Alcátzar, Arroyo Naranjo, Galápagos, Calabazar, La Piscina, and Expocuba.
Rodríguez Dávila emphasized the need for residents along the route to cooperate in preventing trash and debris that deteriorate the road's technical condition, affect traffic safety, and could paralyze the service.
In order to restore this service, work had been carried out several months earlier on the repair of the line forming the route, where fixings were placed, as well as footwear, alignment of rails and revision of sleepers, work planned to continue if necessary, without interfering with the operation of the train.
In addition, sleepers were installed and other work was carried out on the bridges, as well as painting and construction work was carried out at the stops.
They also carried out cleaning tasks, posted signs, and other activities aimed at improving visibility and safety along the route. (Text and photo: Trabajadores Digital)
