Havana, July 17 – The Cuban National Ballet (BNC, for its acronym in Spanish), under the general direction of Viengsay Valdés, is preparing a three-performance program that includes the first act of Don Quixote and the second act of Swan Lake.
The Avellaneda Hall of the National Theater of Cuba, in this capital, will shine on August 1, 2, and 3 with performances by leading figures of Cuban dance, as announced by the prestigious company on its Facebook page.
In the first performance, the roles of Kitri and Basilio in Don Quixote will be performed by Gabriela Druyet and Ányelo Montero, while Anette Delgado and Dani Hernández will take on the roles of Odette and Siegfried in Swan Lake.
According to the program, Grettel Morejón and Yankiel Vázquez will star in Don Quixote on Saturday the 2nd, while Gabriela Druyet and Ányelo Montero will play the lead roles in Swan Lake that day.
This last classic will take the stage on Sunday 3 along with Grettel Morejón and Yankiel Vázquez.
Meanwhile, Anette Delgado and Dani Hernández will showcase their talents that day in the roles of Kitri and Basilio, respectively.
Nadila Estrada, Alejandro Alderete, Laura Kamila, Luis Fernández, Yotuel Méndez, Dairon Darias, Erick Solórzano, and Roque Salvador will take on other roles.
With music by Ludwig Minkus, Don Quixote is choreographed by María Elena Llorente and Marta García, under the artistic and choreographic direction of Alicia Alonso and designs by Salvador Fernández.
The second act of Swan Lake will be presented in Alicia Alonso's version of Lev Ivanov's original work, with music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and set design by Ricardo Reymena.
Recently, the BNC demonstrated its mastery on its 13-city tour of China, successfully staging 18 performances of Swan Lake.
A performance of Don Quixote is scheduled for the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen. (Text and Photo: Cubasí)
