Amman, July 24 – The Government of the Kingdom of Jordan today condemned the vote of the Israeli executive (Knesset) supporting Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and the Jordan Valley.
A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed that Israel has no sovereignty over any part of the occupied Palestinian territories and called Tel Aviv's measure as a "flagrant violation of international law and a severe blow to the two-state solution.
Such actions undermine the right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent and sovereign state along the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital," said Sufian Qudah, the ministry’s spokesperson.
He reiterated the Kingdom's rejection and condemnation of any Israeli attempt to impose control over the West Bank.
He considered that these actions constitute clear violations of international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions, in particular Resolution 2334, which condemns all Israeli measures aimed at altering the demographic composition, identity, and legal status of the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem.
He also cited the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, which confirmed the illegality of the Israeli occupation, including settlement construction and the annexation of West Bank lands.
Qudah warned against the continuation of unilateral Israeli policies and stressed that all Israeli actions in the West Bank are “illegal and have no legal basis.”
It urged the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and pressure Israel to “immediately” cease its aggression against Gaza and its dangerous escalation in the occupied West Bank, provide protection to the Palestinian people, and defend their legitimate right to establish an independent state on their national territory.
Israeli lawmakers voted 71 to 13 in favor of a non-binding motion to annex the occupied West Bank to Israel. According to Israeli media, the motion describes Judea, Samaria, and the Jordan Valley as "an inseparable part of the historic homeland of the Jewish people" and calls for Israeli sovereignty to be applied to these areas.
