Ciego de Ávila, July 26. – July 26th is a clear example of the combativeness of a people committed to being sovereign, said Manuel Marrero Cruz, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC, for its acronym in Spanish) and Cuban Prime Minister, today at the central event marking National Rebellion Day.

Led by Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution, and Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, 10,000 Ciego de Ávila residents gathered in the Major General Máximo Gómez Báez Revolution Square, representing the Cuban people, to honor the anniversary.

The epic of Moncada taught us to turn setbacks into victory, said the Cuban Head of Government, so that the nation will not give up its goal of continuing to be fair, democratic and free from external influences, which responds to the internal unity as a protective shield and anti-imperialist consciousness of its citizens.

In 2026, the year in which the centennial of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz will be commemorated, the State will prioritize increasing national production, earning foreign currency, restoring the electro-energy system, and strengthening the socialist state enterprise to solve problems that threaten the well-being of the population, he stated.

Julio Heriberto Gómez Casanova, first secretary of the PCC in the province, congratulated the people of Ciego de Ávila, undisputed protagonists of the region’s results, for the arduous year of work from which they have seen fruits, despite suffering the consequences of the intensification of the economic blockade, commercial and financial, as well as other interventionist measures imposed by the United States.

The central territory's success in hosting the main activities for the anniversary is due to sustained progress in the economic, political, and social spheres, with indicators that include agri-food production, retail trade circulation, the consolidation of tourism, and local development through the use of science and innovation, he explained.

He also highlighted the province's role in the Caribbean island's history of struggle, as the epicenter of the strategy to extend the war for independence to the West, its revolutionary tradition, and the unbreakable spirit of its people during the tyrannies of neocolonialism.

The event, attended by Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés Menéndez and José Ramón Machado Ventura, Commander of the Rebel Army, both part of the historic generation, served as a bridge between the glorious past and the present of continuity.

In the solemn moment, a tribute was paid to the heroes and martyrs of the feats of July 26, 1953, young people of the Centennial Generation, among whom were Ramón Paz, Raúl Cervantes, Ricardo Pérez Alemán, José Ascanio Pérez, Patricio Sierralta, among others.

To demonstrate their solidarity with the Caribbean island, 370 members of eight friendship projects from 23 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, Africa, and Europe joined the historic commemoration.

Osmael Omer, an Ethiopian who completed his university studies in Cuba, shared with ACN his deep love for the nation that welcomed him as one of its sons, as well as for Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, who made his professional training possible to contribute to the development of his country.

During the main event, the Political Bureau's agreement that conferred the status of Distinguished Province on the province of Sancti Spíritus and the recognition of Guantánamo was recalled, with the main authorities of those territories present.

Also attending the celebration were Roberto Morales Ojeda, Secretary of Organization of the PCC Central Committee; members of the Political Bureau and the Secretariat of the Central Committee; members of the Councils of State and Ministers; leaders of youth and mass organizations, among other political and governmental authorities of the nation and territory.
