Nuevitas, Camagüey, August 5.- In this municipality in northeastern Camagüey, breastfeeding is being promoted at the Martín Chan Puga General Teaching Hospital, which holds the status Friend of mother and child, polyclinics and family doctor and nurse’s offices.
Training activities for healthcare personnel and educational talks for pregnant women are taking place more systematically these days throughout the territory, on the occasion of the World Week of this practice -from 1 to 7 August- established by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund.
The main objective of the event is to raise awareness among expectant mothers about the benefits of breast milk as the exclusive food for babies in the early stages of life.
The graduate Esneydi Despeyne Grillán, head of Nursing in the "Martín Chan Puga", conveys to the patients of the Pregnant room that it is the ideal way of natural nutrition of the newborn, by providing extensive benefits from the immune and psychological point of view, and is a food always fresh and safe in bacteriological order, contains anti-infective factors and immune cells, and reduces the risk of allergies.
