Organization and actions against Aedes aegypti in Nuevitas

Nuevitas, Camagüey, August 9.- This Camagüey municipality is facing a complex epidemiological situation due to the spread of the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

According to Master of Science Lídice Rodríguez Serrú, director of the Gonzalo Esteban Lugo Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology, and Microbiology, there are nine blocks currently experiencing transmission and six at risk, located in various popular councils of the area. The infestation index stands at 2.43 percent, with higher transmission rates in the Los Micros popular council.

To mitigate the consequences, the territory has an anti-vector brigade composed of 22 members from the Youth Labor Army (EJT, for its acronym in Spanish), who work as vector operators.

The main actions are primarily directed toward the affected blocks, hence the call to the population to conduct self-focal assessments, effectively clean water storage containers, and seek health institutions in case of febrile symptoms.

Given this epidemiological situation, the Municipal Vector Command Chain of Nuevitas is working intensively to stop circulation levels. (Leticia González Pando/Radio Nuevitas) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
