Havana, August 12.- Five Chinese-made Yutong buses, which run on biomethane as fuel, will begin operating in the province of Matanzas, marking a significant step toward cleaner and more sustainable energy alternatives in Cuban public transportation.
The vehicles will operate specifically in the municipality of Martí, where they will run on refined biogas, a domestically produced fuel obtained from organic waste.
This type of energy has a low impact on environmental pollution, representing a viable alternative to traditional fossil fuels.
The initiative is part of the Global Climate Change Action Program, a strategy that seeks to move toward greater use of renewable energy and a progressive reduction in the use of highly polluting sources.
Built in China, the new buses are part of a pilot project that, if successful, could be expanded to other regions of the country in the future, as part of Cuba's commitment to sustainability and the energy transition. (Text and photo: Radio Reloj)
