Havana, August 28 - The exhibition “Juan Padrón: 40 Years Since ¡Vampiros en La Habana!” will be inaugurated this Saturday at Galleria Continua, located at 108 Rayo Street between Zanja and Dragones, in the Chinatown district of the capital, featuring a special performance by Ruly Herrera & Real Project.
This showcase of Cuban artist and filmmaker Juan Padrón will display works related to the director’s second feature film, which has been recognized by Ibero-American critics as one of the best Hispano-American films of the 20th century, being the only animated film on the list.
Among the film’s accolades are the third Coral Award for Animation at the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema in Havana, the Georges Brassens Medal at the Film Festival of the Casa de la Cultura de Léognan during the First Festival of Cuban Culture in France (1986), and its selection among the 30 best animated films by the Cultural Council of the Spanish Film Institute (1989).
In this way, Galleria Continua continues its celebrations for its tenth anniversary, this time paying tribute to the master of animation in Cuba, Juan Padrón, and to the cult classic “Vampiros en La Habana,” an essential film in the history of national cinematography.
