Geomagnetic storm impact on Earth is predicted

Washington, September 2. - The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Space Weather Prediction Center predicts the arrival of a geomagnetic storm on Earth today.

The phenomenon was triggered by a flare emitted on August 30 by the active sunspot region known as 4199.

According to NOAA, the event is forecast to produce a G2 (moderate) geomagnetic storm upon arrival, which will intensify to G3 (strong) levels as the main body of the disturbance arrives.

A geomagnetic storm is a major disturbance in the Earth's magnetosphere that occurs when there is a very efficient exchange of energy from the solar wind into the space environment surrounding Earth.

The advisory indicates that temporary satellite failures, radio and radar problems, and magnetic compass navigation issues may occur. Furthermore, during this event, the Northern Lights are generally visible at lower latitudes than normal. (PL) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
