Cuba and Vietnam sign three-year cooperation plan in defense

Hanoi, September 3 .- Vietnam and Cuba signed a three-year cooperation plan here today following the meeting between the Ministers of National Defense, General Phan Van Giang, and of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), Army Corps General Álvaro López Miera.

Recently, defense cooperation has always been one of the key pillars of the bilateral relationship, contributing to strengthening collaboration in other areas, Van Giang stated during the talks with his Cuban counterpart.

The Vietnamese minister referred to the laying of a wreath at the monument to fallen Cuban military experts here by the First Secretary of the Communist Party Central Committee and President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, along with members of the high-level delegation that concluded an official visit the day before.

This monument, one of the first completed elements of the memorial complex being built at the Military History Museum, recognizes the vital support provided by Cuba during the wars of resistance, Van Giang said.

Furthermore, it is a gesture of profound respect from the Communist Party, the State, the Armed Forces, and the Vietnamese people toward the Cuban comrades who sacrificed themselves for a noble international cause, and reaffirms the lasting, faithful, and constant friendship between the two peoples, the General emphasized, as quoted by the VNA news agency.

The Minister of National Defense also expressed the deep empathy of the Indochinese nation for the unprecedented challenges the island is facing today, and affirmed that Vietnam is willing to accompany, support, and cooperate with Cuba to the extent possible.

Vietnam will never forget the profound and sincere support provided by Cuba during the most difficult periods of its struggle for liberation and national reunification, as well as in the country's current efforts to build and safeguard the homeland, he affirmed.

López Miera, for his part, reiterated his affection and admiration for this beautiful Southeast Asian country and said he was impressed by the colorful celebration of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2), which he attended the day before in the historic Ba Dinh Square.

The FAR minister also emphasized that the achievements of the Vietnamese people over the past eight decades are a great source of encouragement and motivation for the Cuban people in the current period.

Cuba is proud to have Vietnam as a sister nation and is always willing to promote and strengthen the relationship between the two armies, contributing to the development of the special traditional friendship between the two countries, he emphasized. (PL) (Photo: Taken from the Internet)
