Moscow, September 5. - US President Donald Trump will officially announce this Friday, through an executive order, that the Department of Defense will adopt the War Department as a secondary name, Fox News reported Thursday.
The change, on Trump’s initiative, indicates that its functions may reflect more offensive than defensive tasks, acknowledged the current Pentagon chief, Pete Hegseth.
A White House official confirmed to Fox News Digital that the changes would include using terms like "Secretary of War" to refer to Hegseth.
The Defense Secretary has supported the initiative, arguing that during World War I and World War II, the U.S. triumphed under the name Department of War, and that words and names matter to cultivate a more aggressive military culture.
It is unclear whether Congress, which has the power to establish federal executive departments, will have to intervene and issue final approval of the measure. (Text and photo: RT)
