Havana, September 15. - ICAP President Fernando González, leading a delegation on a working visit to Ethiopia, paid tribute to the 163 Caribbean combatants who fell in defense of the African nation's sovereignty.
González, accompanied by Yahimi Rodríguez, Director of Africa for the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP, for its acronym in Spanish), members of Havana's diplomatic mission in Addis Ababa, and solidarity associations, laid floral wreaths before the two murals with portraits of these martyrs printed on bronze plaques.
In an atmosphere of respect and solemnity in the Ethiopia-Cuba Friendship Park, the sacrifice of the internationalist combatants who gave their lives in defense of the African country's territorial integrity in the Ogaden Desert on March 5, 1978, was commemorated, a gesture that forever sealed the brotherhood between the two peoples.
The commitment to keeping alive the legacy of solidarity and fraternity that unites both nations was also reaffirmed, an enduring example of the struggle for justice and the dignity of the peoples.
The ICAP delegation arrived in this capital last Thursday from Ghana, and their work agenda included meetings with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ruling Prosperity Party, the House of People's Representatives (Parliament), and representatives of different solidarity associations.
