Havana, September 26. - United States authorities returned 136 irregular migrants to Cuba by air on Thursday, in compliance with the current migration agreements between the two countries, according to the Ministry of the Interior (Minint) Facebook page.
The group consisted of one hundred twenty-five men and eleven women, of whom four were transferred to investigative organs for alleged perpetrators of crimes before leaving the country, Minint reported.
This was the ninth such operation so far in 2025 from US territory. This brings the total to 37 returns this year from different nations in the region, involving 1,140 people, 999 of them from the United States.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms that the migration agreements signed in 1984 and updated in 1994 and 1995 establish that Washington will issue a minimum of 20,000 visas annually for the legal emigration of Cuban citizens, while Havana accepts the return of those who leave illegally.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, these understandings constitute the legal basis governing the bilateral migration issue and have been the subject of periodic rounds of talks, despite political tensions and unilateral measures applied by the United States.
The Cuban government reiterates its commitment to regular, safe, and orderly migration and warns of the life risks posed by illegal departures while denouncing that Washington's failure to meet its commitments stimulates irregular migration and causes unnecessary humanitarian crises. (Source: ACN)
