Hanoi, September 30th.- The President of the National Assembly (Parliament) of Vietnam, Tran Thanh Man, today led here the solemn welcoming ceremony offered to his Cuban counterpart, Esteban Lazo Hernández, who began an official visit to Vietnam.
Thanh Man waited at the entrance of the Legislative building for the President of the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba, with whom he later toured a photographic exhibition installed in the central lobby of the building that showcases milestones of the 65 years of special relations between both countries.
Subsequently, Lazo and Thanh Man, along with their respective delegations, held a meeting that preceded the celebration, tomorrow, of the Second Meeting of the Vietnam-Cuba Interparliamentary Cooperation Committee.
The member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba also arrived today for an official visit extending until October 5, with a program that began with a meeting with the Vietnamese President, Luong Cuong.
During his stay in this capital, besides co-presiding over the Interparliamentary Cooperation Committee meeting, Lazo will hold official talks with the country’s top authorities and pay tribute at the Heroes and Martyrs Monument, as well as to President Ho Chi Minh at the mausoleum built in his memory.
Next Thursday, the Cuban delegation of deputies will travel to the southern Ho Chi Minh City, where they will carry out an extensive program including meetings with the main local leaders and an exchange of experiences on socioeconomic development and the implementation of special policies in that city, among other activities.
Lazo and his delegation will also visit the province of Hung Yen, where they will tour industrial park facilities and high-tech agricultural production zones located there.
When announcing the visit of the President of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, Pham Thu Hang, recalled that the Legislatures of both countries maintain close and substantive relations of friendship and cooperation.
In April 2023, the Interparliamentary Cooperation Committee was established, whose first meeting was held in Havana in September of last year, she noted.
Both parliaments carry out multiple activities to exchange information and experiences in the development and improvement of institutions and policies, as well as delegations, and they coordinate and support each other in international organizations and multilateral forums, she added.
