Jimaguayú, an example of work and commitment on Agricultural Workers' Day

Jimaguayú, Camagüey, Oct. 3 – Farmers and ranchers in the province of Camagüey maintain a constant commitment to innovation, productivity, and environmental sustainability, essential pillars for the sector's development.

A prominent example of this effort is Jimaguayú, known for its production and processing capacity. With a strong livestock tradition, the town has begun an important process to recover productive areas, diversify its economy, and improve food production.

One of the entities leading this initiative is the Triángulo 5 Municipal Agroindustrial Company. Its president, Ricardo Díaz Nápoles, explains that the team has focused on increasing milk and beef production for the industry, thus contributing to the substitution of imports.

But its vision goes further. "The company is moving toward a more diversified and sustainable agriculture through science and technology," emphasizes its president. This strategy is realized through the incorporation of agroecological practices in crops and the use of vermiculture to produce humus, a natural fertilizer that enriches the soil and ensures healthier harvests.

Through the implementation of polyculture techniques, farmers can cultivate different types of fruits and other crops in the same area, which improves soil use, reduces risks of pests and diseases, and increases productivity.

This group has also implemented various strategies to strengthen cattle ranching, aiming to guarantee the sector's sustainability. Among these actions are the adoption of modern management technologies, genetic improvement of livestock, and training programs for local producers.

Díaz Nápoles highlighted that they prioritize comprehensive care of cattle herds through the implementation of preventive health programs, proper feeding, regular veterinary care, and sanitary management.

In the context of Agricultural Worker’s Day, celebrated this October 3, Jimaguayú stands as a symbol of the effort and dedication of all men and women in the countryside of Camagüey. Their daily work is a direct contribution to the progress and food sovereignty, not only of the province but of the entire country.
