Guáimaro prepares to vaccinate girls against the Human Papillomavirus

Guáimaro, Camagüey, Oct. 10 — Health specialists in Guáimaro are leading informational exchanges in schools aimed at guiding families about the important national vaccination campaign aimed at nine-year-old girls against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV).

This key initiative will take place from October 27 to January 27 and will focus on administering the bivalent vaccine candidate Cecolin, designed specifically to protect against HPV serotypes 16 and 18, which are responsible for about 70% of cervical cancer cases worldwide.

Vaccination sites in Guáimaro will include Rafael Morales and Joaquín de Agüero primary schools in the city center, as well as the 10 de Abril school in Pueblo Nuevo. Additional locations will be set up in the Martí and Cascorro popular councils to facilitate access.

Doctors explain the vaccine dose will be 0.5 milliliters administered intramuscularly. They highlight that the vaccine is most effective when given before exposure to the virus, making vaccination before the onset of sexual activity crucial.

Protecting girls from HPV is a key part of the Cuban government's and Ministry of Public Health’s efforts to ensure the comprehensive care and development of new generations. This campaign represents not only progress in public health but also a commitment to the well-being of the future. (Text and photo: Yaykibel Cordoví Ramos / Radio Guáimaro)
